Medusa by bozonio Medusa by bozonio
A jellyfish or medusa in greek...
Photo taken at a beach near Patra, Greece. The depth of the water was about 1.5m. I used Nikon coolpix7000 's underwater housing by Fantasea and in-camera flash with diffuser.

They probably have evolved to look to dangerous to warn away predators

I would cry with my camera underwater, but that aside, this looks simply great. I've always been one for the beautiful colours of the ocean's life and you've done an excellent job composing this. Good work. :)

Very cool shot. I would've felt really scared getting this close. Ocean creatures creep me out.

Still, this is really beautiful.

Thank you! They are not really dangerous... They can cause a minor allergic reaction but they have to touch you, and they are really slow...

I've been to Greece about 3 times.. I never met medusas there o.o I guess they only live in some areas?

Wonderful picture :D

Thank you! Yeah jellyfishes appear only in some areas and some times through the year. I swim in Greek seas every year 20-30 times and I was able to take pictures of jellyfishes only 2-3 times...

Ohh? I see.. Are the jellyfishes (what you have seen) dangerous? They seem like it. I've only seen some small ones here in Finland which are not dangerous at all..

Oh, keep up with the great photos :D

This jellyfish is simply beautiful. The clarity and richness of the cobalt blue is nicely complimented by the blue-green background.

My own advice would be to show more of the water, more of the background, establish a context. The problem is that the shot is between a zoomed in crop, which can be very interesting, and a zoomed out centered image, which can also be interesting. I would definitely have loved to see more of the fishes swimming around and the seafloor.

Keep up the good work! :)

Thank you for your critique! There was not much I could do to the background of the original photo, I almost didn't crop it. I had some others with more background but the jellyfish was not that interesting in them...
